On July 26th 2013, I will be riding in a 3-day event called Wish A Mile (WAM), a 300-mile biking fundraiser to support the Make A Wish organization. Although a most worthy cause independently, I am personally connected to Make A Wish as my youngest daughter Sophie, is a “wish kid.” Sophie has an extremely rare medical condition known as Familial Dysautonomia or Riley Day Syndrome... there is no cure. She was granted her wish to ride the AquaDuck water slide aboard the Disney Dream cruise ship in March of 2012. Unfortunately, her wish was interrupted by her illness and we had to leave the ship while at sea. We are happy to report that Sophie is going to be granted another wish which she is currently contemplating, but it won’t involve anything associated with an ocean! I will be riding in WAM 2013 as a member of Team Alex. Sophie has been adopted by this group of over 160 riders as their “Wish Hero,” serving as their inspiration and reminder of the impact Make A Wish has on the lives of so many children and their families. I am asking that you consider making a contribution to Make A Wish through my WAM personal fundraising page which can be accessed via the attached link below (WAM.kintera.org/sophie). I have recently exceeded my goal to raise $5,000 but would like to raise as much as I possibly can above and beyond. With your help, I think we can make an even bigger impact in support of Make A Wish. There are thousands of kids medically eligible and waiting for a wish. I want to make sure children in need can experience the thrill and excitement that Sophie did when her wish was granted, even if only for a moment in the midst of dealing with their individual afflictions. Any gift is appreciated and collectively, makes a big difference! Thanks for your consideration. To find out more about Team Alex and Make A Wish, please visit Wish A Mile at wishamile.org.
