On May 26, 2014 at approximately 10:50am, Lincoln County Sheriffs Deputies Barry Bruster and Karl Vertner were dispatched to a report of an accident where a 14 year old juvenile male was severely injured along the banks of the Salmon River approximately two miles north of Lincoln City, Oregon. The accident occurred as campers were shuttling camping gear along the riverbank for portage across the Salmon River. Witnesses reported seeing a juvenile attempt to climb onto a moving two-axle trailer loaded with camping gear. The juvenile slipped, fell to the ground, and was run over by the trailer tires. Medical assistance was provided by witnesses until North Lincoln Fire & Rescue and Pacific West Ambulance arrived on scene. The juvenile was then transported to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital in Lincoln City where he succumbed to his injuries. Deputies determined the incident was accidental and no criminal charges are being pursued at this time. Notification to family members in the Portland area has been made.
