On May 5, 2013, a chunk of rock violently burnt up in the Earths atmosphere creating a streak of light across the Australian night sky. Beneath the fireball on the Nullarbor Plain, a series of prototype cameras pointed skyward photographed the meteorite as it fell to Earth. The cameras recorded not just an amazing photograph but where in the solar system the fireball came from and where it was headed. Meteorite hunter Professor Phil Bland studied the photographs captured that night, Blands team was able to calculate to within about three square kilometres where the cricket ball-sized meteorite was due to land. And he went to look for it.
