On Monday, I walked in a Bank of America office and deposited a check. The receipt showed that it would be available that same day. However, it didnt appear in my account on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Naturally, Im concerned. I called the 800 number and was told that I had to go back to the bank. I asked, Whats the use of having an 800 number, if I have to go back to the bank? (sounds of crickets) On Wednesday afternoon, I go back to bank. I gave the deposit slip to the teller and she cant find the deposit. An hour later, they still cant find the deposit. Finally, they asked me if I happened to have a photo of the check!!! It may help them to locate it. Id imagine that they have a wall of missing check photos like they have of missing children and wanted posters in the post office. I asked, How many people take a photo of their check before depositing it at the tellers window? (sounds of crickets) One of their options was to allow me to overdraw on my account up to the amount of the check without paying overdraft fees. However, I couldnt withdraw any cash!!! My simple response, Thats unacceptable. They said that they just couldnt just deposit any cash without the check. My other option was to wait until they found the check. My simple response, Thats unacceptable. Needless to say, they found enough money laying around the bank to put in my account without locating the check.
