On November 14, 1970, a chartered jet carrying the Marshall - TopicsExpress

On November 14, 1970, a chartered jet carrying the Marshall University football team crashed into a hillside just walking distance from the Tri-State Airport in Kenova, West Virginia. The team was returning from that day’s game, a 17-14 loss to East Carolina University. 75 souls including Marshall football players, coaches, administrators, local media people, team doctors, community leaders and supporters were aboard the plane. They had all traveled together to cheer on the Thundering Herd! That night the whole heart of Huntington and Marshall were lost. For those of us that grew up in Huntington it was like the assassination of JFK, you will never forget where you were, what you were doing, how you felt. It has been 44 years and on this day the entire Thundering Herd family reflects on that day and remembers those 75 souls as the Memorial Fountain is turned off! Saturday the Thundering Herd will take the field filled with a lot of emotion and pride because not only will they have the number 75 on their helmets, they will have the 75 in their hearts cheering them on!. Special thoughts and prayers to my friends whose parents were lost on that night. God bless you! We are...MARSHALL!
