On October 4, 2014 at 10:00 am officers responded to the Morris County Jail to take custody of Jason C. Riker (29) of Mt. Arlington, NJ on a Mansfield Township warrant for failing to appear in Court on a shoplifting charge. He was transported to the Warren County Jail pending Court. On October 6, 2014 at 1:27 pm while at Walmart on a harassment complaint officers identified James S. Basile (37) of Hackettstown as being wanted out of Belleville on a $71.00 warrant. He was able to post bail and was released pending a Court appearance in Belleville. On October 6, 2014 at 8:45 pm an officer observed a suspicious male walk into the Kohls Department Store. The officer entered the store and alerted loss prevention who was already watching the male. They observed the male walk behind the jewelry counter and conceal merchandise on his person. As he walked around the store he removed other items from their packaging and concealed those items as well. He was stopped outside the store and was identified as Edward J. Mew II (29) of Hackettstown. The merchandise totaling $147.92 was recovered as well as a marijuana joint that was found in his pocket. He was charged with shoplifting and possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and was turned over to the Hackettstown Police Department after a warrant for $1105.00 was found out of their jurisdiction. On October 7, 2014 at 3:00 pm Ryan B. Christian (24) of Bethlehem, PA was arrested at our Municipal Court on a $1212.00 Roxbury Township warrant. He posted bail and was released. On October 12, 2014 at 12:06 am officers responded to a Port Murray residence on the report of domestic violence. The victim reported to dispatch a 48yr old male acquaintance is preventing her from leaving the residence, has smashed up the house, and gave the victim a black eye. Dispatch advised responding officers she was hiding in the basement of the residence. While officers were in route additional information was provided indicating the male was holding a shotgun and was entering the basement. Officers immediately entered the residence and took the male into custody. The male was charged with simple assault for punching the victim in the face and throwing her to the floor causing injury to her elbow and facial area. He was also charged with unlawful possession of a shotgun and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He was lodged at the Warren County Jail in default of $1500.00 bail. Washington Township Police Department assisted at the scene. On October 13, 2014 at 9:00 am an officer stopped a vehicle being driven by Jesse J. Smith of Hope in the Walmart parking lot for an equipment violation. Two warrants out of North Warren Municipal Court in the amount of $650.00 were found. He posted bail and was released with a summons for driving while suspended. On October 14, 2014 at 12:42 am an officer conducting a radar detail on Rt. 57 in the area of Baldwin Drive observed a vehicle traveling 49mph in the 35mph zone. He stopped the vehicle and the driver, Louis R. Joy (43) of Slatington, PA, was found to have a suspended drivers license as well as a $240.00 warrant out of Irvington. He was issued a summons for speeding and driving while suspended and was turned over to Irvington Police on their warrant.
