On Sabbath, August 23’s lesson, “Our Mission” absg.adventist.org/2014/3Q/SE/PDFs/EAQ314_09.pdf “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” (Matthew 24:14). The gospel of Jesus is the most impactful, comprehensive blessing known to humankind. The fact that our heavenly Father loved the world so much that He gave His only begotten Son, so we could be rescued from eternal death has been the subject of much discussion for millennia. More than a deep discussion, however, is the deep change that this message brings to those in the throes of debilitating habits. Most of the world is controlled by pride, addictions, hatred, emotional bondage, and general hopelessness. If there is any doubt whether what I am saying is true, one needs only to turn on the news and see how murder has become so commonplace that even those who have pledged to impartially protect and serve sometimes lose the battle over self and destroy life, rather than save it. Justice cries in the streets around the world, because children are being massacred, families are being destroyed through infidelity and abandonment, and the laws of the land are often abused to bless the rich and curse the poor. Thus, there must be an answer to our human woes—a solution to our helplessness. The power of Jesus Christ is evident when those who once hated, mysteriously learn to love. The power of Jesus Christ is evident when those who once enjoyed causing others pain, mysteriously learn to advocate for helpless, voiceless children. The power of Jesus Christ is evident when those who once loved money, mysteriously commit all they have and are to benefit those in need. It is a wonder why so few people are willing to experience this power and love in our lives. Could it be that so few examples of converted lives are being preached at our jobs, in our homes, and in the public square? I want to be a committee of one, among countless other committees of one, who disdain to further misrepresent the God I claim to love. I want to be a living example that the gospel is not a lie and our God is not impotent. May the Lord live inside us fully, so we can be a blessing and the end of all suffering, sin, and death can come. Amen.—L. David Harris
