On Saturday July 19th the Guardians RC did a find raiser ride for a young lady named Monique that has had a tough year. The ride was a success in spite of Mother Nature raining on us intermittently.... We raised some money and gathered many household items as donations! This past Saturday, the Guardians Riding Club prepared to get Monique moved into her apartment, we loaded up the items collected for the apartment she recently rented and headed to get her set up. When we arrived at the house, We smelled a strong odor of natural gas, so We knocked on the door to the unit I thought she was going to be in, when We didn’t get an answer we started tapping on windows. Monique came out of the other apartment and We got her and the baby out onto the porch while I called the city. The other apartment housed a lady who had also just moved in on Friday night, who was sleeping heavily due to what we soon found out was a massive gas leak! As luck would have it, she had just moved out of the shelter and also had nothing! The members of our club started making phone calls, several of us headed out to local thrift stores, dollar stores etc.. we were able to also provide this lady with everything that we were getting for Monique; refrigerators, stoves, television, sofa and bedding. We also purchased basic essentials such as personal hygiene items, basic cooking and kitchen items, towels, rags, sheets etc.. When we left the apartments, late in the day, they were both set up! At the very least, Monique will be able to be comfortable when the new baby comes and has a new friend that will be able to help check in on her! I want to thank all of the Guardian RC family for the hard work, sacrifices and dedication it takes to put together and pull off these events! We hope to see our Lagrange residents at our next ride on August 16th!!!
