On Sunday night, graffiti vandals yet again went after Dolores Park, vandalizing the playground and numerous other parts of the park. This vandalism - which is a major problem throughout our park system at night - creates significant expenses and undermines the hard work of park workers and neighbors to keep our park system in good shape. Everyone pays the price for the sociopathic behavior of these individuals. This attack on Dolores Park once again calls attention to the profound lack of park security due to the tiny number of park rangers, as well as the lack of accountability for vandalism in our criminal justice system. We need more park rangers, particularly at night, and Ill continue my work to advocate for that in the budget process. In addition, these vandals should spend time in jail, even if its a small amount of time. As long as San Francisco is perceived as a consequence-free zone for destroying property, we will continue to see this kind of behavior.
