On a wet and windy morning, our U8s Juniors made the short journey away to Leek Wootton Juniors, an unbeaten opponent in the league. Full of confidence from an unbeaten run of the previous five games, LJFC started the game in a somewhat nervous fashion and were unable to keep out a couple of quick goals by the hosts. Despite some brave goalkeeping by Luis, who sustained a facial injury but continued in goal, and some hard work by Oscar and Tobey, it was the hosts that scored again. In all honesty, the first half was one to forget with LJFC totally outplayed from start to finish, however it would be the second half where LJFC showed what they are capable of with an impressive display of quick attacking and solid defending. Harvey and Sean started the second half in defence and led by example with some fantastic tackles and it became apparent very quickly that LJFC were much improved from the first half. Isaac, Octobers Player of the Month, was influential in moving the ball forward to striker Kai at every opportunity resulting in two goals for the LJFC striker. Lyle replaced Kai as the lone striker and was fantastic with his trademark fancy footwork and was almost in on goal on a couple of occasions. It was Tobeys quick-thinking that led to another goal for LJFC, as the hosts goalkeeper handled outside of the area and Tobey took a very quick free-kick and directed the ball in the corner to score. The hosts scored a couple of more goals as the game drew to a close with LJFC the dominant side in the second half, but not before the final goal of the game for the visitors. Good play by Harvey on the right, and an equally good cross, found an unmarked Lyle in the box who smashed it home from close-range to score his first ever (well-deserved) goal! An encouraging end to the game for LJFC meant that everyone left on a very positive note ahead of next weekends cup competition at home against LJFC Colts and St Peters Celtic Juniors. Player of the Match went to Lyle for his persistence in the final third, his brilliant footwork and his goal - well done Lyle! Well done to all the players, we look forward to next weekend, and thanks to all of the parents for their continued support!
