On another post someone asked about all the hype concerning Osage. My Friend Billy Moore stated that others have built bows out of fence posts over a hundred years old. I have built five bows of wood known to be over one hundred years old. I just finished one for a friend. He was making an ornamental fence around his patio as a honeydoo thing. He noticed good growth ring when he cut an excess 26 inches off the bottom of a post. He brought it to me to see if I could make a little osage bow. I one upped him and made a big boy bow out of it, thats 52 inches nock to nock and pulls 52 pounds at 26 inches. It, like all the others, resides with the person who brought me the hundred year old wood. First pic shows one piece with a ring chased and the other as it looked when I started. Second shows amount of wood removal to get down to a growth ring. Third is braced. Last is at 25 inches of draw.
