On average, Israel kills 2 Palestinian children per week. I have just returned from an earlier meeting where members of the public listened to the testimony of a young Palestinian man who himself was imprisoned at age 15 years and was sentenced to 28 months in Israeli jails for throwing stones at army jeeps that had provocatively entered his village on the outskirts of Jerusalem. Mohammed is now in his mid twenties and judging by the statistics in the graphic below, he is lucky to have been jailed - for many, many other Palestinian children have infact been shot dead for such acts as throwing stones! The maximum permitted sentence by Israeli Military Courts for the crime of stone throwing is 20 years (10 years if the targeted object is not moving). Of course the thousands of children (and juveniles) that are jailed every month under Israeli Occupation of Palestine receive only the average sentence of approx 2 years - which in turn makes the Israeli Military Courts actually seem lenient - because they havent used the full extent of the (disproportionate) sentencing that they could have... and for this, Israel claims to be merciful and compassionate in its treatment of Palestinian children! Until there is justice, there will be no peace. And until there is peace, Palestinians will resit - even if only by throwing stones at the Occupying Armys jeeps that invade their villages!
