On last sunday, i took both of my kids in the garden. Being a mother, nothing makes me happier than seeing my kids happy & my kids are happy whenever they play in the garden. So i never miss an opportunity to take them in the garden. On sunday both of them enjoyed a lot as i let them play in the garden until it became dark. Then we decided to return to home. As we were returning back, i heard a voice, “hello darling, kaha ja rahi ho? (where are you going?)” as i looked at the sound, i saw 2 men on the other side of the road. Instead of ignoring the vulgar comment & moving ahead & stopped & shouted, “shut up you idiot.” Probably the man didn’t expect this harsh reaction from me. Because mostly whenever any hooligan teases a girl/woman, she bents her head, walks away as if she has not heard anything (as if she is the culprit). So hearing my sharp reaction he said, “maine aapko nahi bola” (i didn’t say this to you.). there was no other girl/woman on the road except me, so obviously that liar said that to me & was now trying to be smart. I again said to him in a very harsh manner, “apni aukat me raho, nahi to me police ko bulaungi.” (don’t cross your limit, or else i will call the police.” Hearing this both of them quietly walked away. I also returned to home with my kids, quite angry with the fact that eve teasing can happen at any time, any place irrespective of the age, marital status, kids of the woman. The world is full of perverted people! At first i was hesitating to share my experience. Then i thought, “why should i hesitate?” i haven’t done anything wrong. i am the one who raised my voice against this nonsense. Every woman faces this kind of nonsense at least once or many times. I will like to tell all these women not to be silent & raise their voice against any sort of nonsense/injustice. We are the citizens of this country. We have a right to stay here with dignity & safety. When we walk on the road, we have a right to walk without fear, with our head upright. As rabindranath tagore imagined about his country in his song- the heaven of freedom, ‘where the mind is without fear & head is held high’. I want to live freely in such environment. So i refused to be a coward, i refused to be silent. I will raise my voice against all sort of nonsense!
