On the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, NOLA VFW would like to honor one of its founding members, Manuel Curry. Manuel was an Army medic who stormed Omaha Beach with the 29th Infantry Division on D-Day. For his actions he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Later in life, the French government awarded him the Legion of Honor. After he came home from the war, Manuel joined the New Orleans Police Department and was on the force until he died in 2009. At the time of his death, Manual was the longest serving police officer in the country. Manuel and his cousin Cecil Murphy were long time members of Post 8973.
