On the Fight Against Ebola….. John Benjamin Exposes Yumkella so-called “Ebola Contribution”; APC Government Denies Receiving Any Ebola Contribution from Yumkella By Josephine Koroma (Iron Lady) The former Chairman of the SLPP, John O. Benjamin has in an interview with Awareness Times published on 18th August 2014 strongly criticised the OPEC contribution of US$500,000 which was hijacked by supporters of Kandeh Yumkella as his personal contribution to fight Ebola in Sierra Leone. In John Benjamin’s interview with Awareness Times in which he criticised the formation of President Koroma’s Ebola Taskforce, the former SLPP Chairman said that the OPEC contribution of US$500,000 (hijacked by supporters of Kandeh Yumkella as his personal contribution) has not been seen in Sierra Leone nor its impact has been felt on the ground. The Former SLPP Chairman rounded up his scathing criticism of the so-called Yumkella “ebola contribution” as a political game rather than genuine commitment to the country. As part of a further investigation on the truth about this so-called Yumkella “ebola contribution”, this writer has in her possession a Press Release by OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) dated 4th August 2014 from Vienna Austria. According to the Press Release it stated that OFID (Not Kandeh Yumkella) made the emergency assistance grant of US$500,000 to specifically support the activities of a Sub-regional Outbreak Coordination Center (SEOCC) which is based in Conakry, Guinea (Not Sierra Leone). It could be recalled that the announcement of this emergency grant was hijacked by Kandeh Yumkella as his personal contribution to fight ebola in Sierra Leone. But as citizens start to ask questions about the many ebola donations senior sources within APC Government have also started to distance themselves from the so-called kandeh Yumkella “ebola contribution” branding it as a “political stunt”. In a related development a senior source within APC Government has denied that the APC Government has received any personal contribution from Kandeh Yumkella in the fight against ebola. The Senior Source said “The publications in newspapers about the Yumkella “ebola contribution” gave the impression that Kandeh Yumkella has donated money to Government of Sierra Leone to fight the ebola virus. Just for the records, our Government has not received a penny from Kandeh Yumkella on the ebola fight. Even the money that was given to the SEOCC office in Guinea we have not seen any impact”. Many political observers are now pondering over the timing of why John Benjamin decided to launch such an attack now on Kandeh Yumkella over this hijacked Yumkella “ebola contribution”. It cannot be far from the truth that John Benjamin has decided to launch such an attack on Kandeh Yumkella so that he can put the spotlight on the US$500,000 which was hijacked by supporters of Yumkella especially now that President Koroma has called on all Sierra Leoneans to speak the truth about the fight against ebola. Also, as the Ebola fight continues and with this latest spotlight on the so-called Yumella “ebola contribution” many citizens have also expressed their disappointment in Kandeh Yumkella why he has not taken a break from his job to travel to Sierra Leone following an ebola outbreak which has killed so many people. A trader along Fourah Bay Road, Fatmata, said “The man said he wants to be President and now when people are dying he is nowhere to be found in the country. Where is the patriotism and the love for his people?
