On this date in 1937, the serial The Guiding Light made its broadcast debut on NBC radio. I havent heard any episodes from the programs earliest years but YouTube does happen to have a radio episode from 1940, broken into 2 parts, and some others from the 1940s and early 1950s. This may be the earliest episode available. The radio serial introduced the Bauer family in 1948 and so this 1940 episode is years before the arrival of Meta, Papa (Frederich), Bill, Trudy, and Bills wife, Bertha (called Bert, for short). https://youtube/watch?v=2dRwVHnv8RM It jumped from NBC to CBS radio in 1947. The radio serial made its TV debut in June 1952 and continued on radio through the end of June in 1956. The same scripts for the radio version were used on the television broadcast during that 4 year period (1952-1956) so those that didnt have TV in their homes yet didnt miss out on any of the story. On some of the Guiding Lights radio programs Bud Collyer happened to be the announcer. As a broadcast, Guiding Light remained in production for 72 years (1937-2009).
