On this day (Jan. 15) in 1965: The Who released I Cant Explain (backed with Bald Headed Woman) on Brunswick Records (UK)/Decca Records (US), their first single under that name (their previous single, Im The Face/Zoot Suit, was released as The High Numbers); the song was written by Pete Townshend (influenced by The Kingsmens Louie Louie & by The Kinks); in a May 1974 interview with CREEM magazine, Jimmy Page claimed to have played rhythm guitar on the song as a session guitarist, which was later confirmed by Pete & producer Shel Talmy - however, there is debate whether Jimmys contribution actually made it to the final cut; the single went on to reach UK #8, but only US #93…
