On this day (Jan. 24) in 1982: The Cramps filed suit against their label I.R.S. Records & its mainman Miles Copeland; they were reportedly looking for $1 million in damages for thwarting the industry growth of the band, including non-payment of an advance, not obtaining the groups approval for album artwork & release dates, improper deductions from their royalties & libel by various I.R.S. employees; the case would settled out of court in 1983 & resulted in the band being released from the label; however, it did impede their ability to record new material in the interim, forcing them to depend on live concerts for income…(this & more featured today at Roch Parisiens Rocon Communications music chat page...)
