On this day in 1964: Judy and daughter Liza Minnelli were in England at the Capitol Records studios rerecording vocal tracks for the upcoming Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli Live at the London Palladium. They both sang over the orchestra tracks that had been made mostly from the second concert, so no musicians were present during this session. Judy dubbed new vocals to Judy Once In A Lifetime (one take); His Is The Only Music That Makes Me Dance (two takes); and, with Liza, new versions of Hello, Dolly (one take); Dont Rain On My Parade (three takes); San Francisco (three takes); and Chicago (two takes; this song used the orchestra tracks from the first concert). Liza also dubbed new versions of her Mama tribute, and Whos Sorry Now? Part of the reason for recording these new takes is that much of the second concert audiotapes were ruined by a buzzing sound that bled through from the television cameras that were videotaping the show that night. For all this effort, the only thing that would be used from this session on the album was the ending of Hello, Dolly, that occurs after the dialog between Judy and Liza and the audience. In spite of the two-album set being poorly edited - and short - the lP would hit number 19 on the charts in teh fall of 1965, following its release on July 25, 1965. thejudyroom/capitol/palladium.html #judygarland #lizaminnelli #officiallizaminnelli #londonpalladium #thejudyroom
