On this day in 1972 Pink Floyd played Dark Side of the Moon live - TopicsExpress

On this day in 1972 Pink Floyd played Dark Side of the Moon live in its entirety for the first time. They had actually tried to play it the night before and it was a total mess (I have the recording. Avoid it). This song is my favorite track off of the album, and it reached #101 on the Billboard charts. It seems really improbable to me that this song, almost 8 minutes long, was ever released as a single. I also find it interesting that it was originally put together as an instrumental called The Violent Sequence in 1969. The band ended up kicking it around for years, until it finally made its way onto this album. I grew up with this perception that quality concept albums were all created in one prolonged burst of inspiration, but that has rarely been the case. As a lackluster songwriter I take comfort in the fact that it took Floyd multiple years to figure out what to do with this song, and how to perfect it. https://youtube/watch?v=nDbeqj-1XOo
