On this day in 1989, Hall of Fame hurdler Roger Kingdom set a new world record in the 110 meter hurdles. Competing at the Weltklasse meet in Zurich, Switzerland, Kingdom finished the race in 12.92 seconds, breaking the previous world record by 0.01 seconds. A native of Vienna, Georgia, Kingdom won many international competitions throughout his career and captured gold medals in the 110 meters at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games.
