On this day in music history: January 2, 1941 - Pop vocal trio The Andrews Sisters record Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy at Decca Studios in Hollywood, CA. Written by Don Raye and Hughie Prince and based on their earlier composition Beat Me Daddy, Eight To The Bar, the song is recorded nearly a year before the US becomes involved in World War II. The sisters will introduce the song in the Abbott & Costello film Buck Privates, becoming an instant smash and will receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Song in 1942. Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy will also be covered numerous times over the years, including a hit version recorded by Bette Midler in 1973. The Andrews Sisters original recording is inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 2000.
