On tour of the World Trade Center area after 911, I met a lady - TopicsExpress

On tour of the World Trade Center area after 911, I met a lady named Jane (we hit it off.. we were both Janes!). She was the tour guide for our group. Her husbands office was on the floor above the plane crash that day. After the tour, she and I had a chance to sit down and talk. This is her story: I was at home that morning and saw the events unfolding on tv.I knew I would hear from him any minute....I sat by the phone, quickly hung up from every call from friends and family and kept the line clear for his call. I sat and listened for his call....for hours....it never came. I picked up the kids and paced the floor all night...I became convinced he was in a hospital room in New York or New Jersey and was just unable to tell them how to call me. Hours turned into days.... no call. I resolved that he may have been killed in the attack, so I set my sights on the front of the house. I watched for the police officers to slowly drive up, park their car, solemnly walk the steps to my doorbell. I visualized how I would react to the news, So sorry..... your husband is dead. So, I waited and waited for their visit. Days became weeks....there was no visit. I heard from no one, I tried to find out anything and everything I could, I searched every hospital, every survivor checkpoint, no one knew about him....except the fact I reported him there that morning. It was finally determined that everyone on the floor above the plane crash was burned up instantly most likely from the tremendous amount of jet fuel. There has been no recovery of any personal posessions, watch, wallet, just nothing. Jane told me she comes here everyday to give tours of the 911 museum and building site because she has no where else to go to grieve. She has no gravesite, no memories of a funeral, nothing. She didnt get to say good-bye. In an instant, her life changed forever. She has walked their daughter down the aisle by herself. She has held their precious grandchildren alone at their birth. Jane is a living victim of the bad in this world. Please pray for Jane today. Every anniversary is hard for her....reliving the anxious waiting, reliving all the ....nothing.
