#randomthoughts - I was introduced to Langston Hughes by Ms Catherine Meyer, a passionate expatriate educator from Canada. I must have been in Form 3 when Ms Meyer discussed and analysed I too sing America with us. I immediately understood the poem - its meaning, its depiction of the black condition in Hughes America. However, a colleague, one of my classmates, struggled to grasp the theme. My colleague asked questions and Ms Meyer tried to answer and explain. After a lengthy exchange between teacher and student - Ms Meyer, in all her wisdom, said I can see you struggle to grasp it now. Dont worry. Put it away, and read it again in 3 or 5 years time - It will make sense. I have employed the put it away philosophy a lot of times in my life - with great results! On that random note: Put it away- It will be clear in the morning! Goodnight world!
