On track for Dakar 2015: The Gardians of the Dakar Rally The Camargue is a remote region of southeast France famed for its generous salt lagoons, open skies and a landscape as wild as the wind that regularly whips across the desolate plains. It’s also home to the Gardians: fearless cattle herdsmen on horseback, whose job is traditionally to control the vicious bulls that form the most prized but savage livestock of the area. In ‘Gardians of Dakar’, this timeless combat is represented by riders of KTM and Honda motorbikes rather than horses, attempting to rein in the menacingly bullish Peugeot 2008 DKR. Their grace and agility is pitted against the brutal power of the buggy, in a mesmerizing pursuit over beaches and saltmarshes that echoes the struggle against the elements at the heart of the legendary Dakar. As they chase across the majestic spaces, these wild animals symbolised by machines are joined by the mighty Kamaz Master truck: all ready to tackle the toughest and most elemental rally on the planet.
