Once Upon A Time in Mumbai 2 Movie Review: Akshay Kumar,Sonakshi Sinha,Imran Khan and Sonali Bendre. Story: The movie commences from where the previous film ended with Shoaib Khan (Akshay Kumar) being the reigning don after successfully assassinating his mentor as well as his predecessor, Sultan Mirza ( Ajay Devgn) thus earning the respect and reverence of the people. He is the charismatic and suave man with womanising skills who has extended his empire upto the Middle east on the west. His sole companions and friends are Javed, who oversees his illegal and shady works for him, his old-time love Mumtaz (Sonali Bendre) and Aslam (Imran Khan), a youth spotted by Shoaib during one of his visits to the slums, where he once spent the early years of his life. The only obstacles on Shoaib’s path to supremacy in Bombay are two enemies of Shoaib, Vardha and Arun. Sreenu, a police officer joins hands with Vardha and Arjun as the trio’s intention of ruining Shoaib coincides. Although the city still being his first love a rising starlet, Jasmine has caught the fancy of Shoaib’s heart. In due time this passion takes the shape of obsession and leads to a rift between Shoaib and Aslam as they both vie for Jasmine’s love Performances: Its been almost 12 years since Akshay Kumar has done “Ajanabee” where he played a Anti- hero and also won Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role, IIFA Best Villain Award. And he returns as a Anti Hero with “Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara”. With even Al PAcino Watching Akshay Kumar in a promo of Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara! Quoted that Akshay Kumar reminded his own blockbuster The Godfather. I thought however great Akshay Kuamar may have performed in OUTIM2, comparing him to Al Pacino is pure exaggeration. But No! I was wrong Akshay Kuamar set the screen on fire, his dialogues, his style , his lust full acts, attitude and everything kept us glued to the screen! There were almost close to 50 One Liners and powerful dialogues by Rajat Arora for Akshay Kumar which is worth a ticket itself! An Award Winning performance MUST SAY Sonakshi Sinha was little plump then usual, and her innocence was intolerable but she looked gorgeous, and did a good job as Jasmine Mirza, a small illiterate actress from a village in the clutches of Shoaib- a Gangster. Imran Khan had a stylish introduction with a train robbery scene, but that’s it, he did a terrible acting trying his old chocolate boy charms pretending to be a tapori but was eventually futile and sometimes irritated the audience. He was a pure miscast. Sonali Bindre had a special appearance as Mumtaz Khan (Parchi Desai of the prequel), She did quite a good job but went unnoticed for her role. Sophie Choudry did a hot cameo and not to miss Akshay Kumar’s line on her,”kaali sari pehen ke aana aur andar sab kuch laal.” to her! The rest of the cast were fine but were too flimsy which made it look awkward. Direction: Milan Luthria had many references and inspirations from many gangster movies from the past, and made them to sync with mismatched songs and scenes . The screenplay was tight but too weak at times that the audience feel bore. The climax ended abruptly but couldn’t have been better either, at-least the preclimax of the movie was well directed , a saving grace and kept the audience to their seats. If not for Akshay Kumar or Rajat Arora’s dialogues this movie would have been a terrible experience for the audience. The Love Triangle between the 3 lead was very cleverly depicted but was too slow compared to the pace the movie had! It would have been a pleasant watch if the editing was crisp and that Bismillah song which was actually a promotional song could have been omitted, and some silly comedy of Imran Khan. It some how misfired due to few lapses here and there. Overall the movie is a good watch and enjoy the movie for its dialogues and Akshay Kumar’s Iconic Villain acts. The Movie may become a Box Office Hit as it has a strong content , word of mouth being positive. Thursday Premieres have been reported collecting 15cr+ in Domestic already. 4/ 5
