Once again, the Filipinos are given a pacifier to suck on- the 2016 presidential elections. While it has the mouth feel of a democratic process, it is empty of any nourishment that can revive this otherwise moribund nation. I have voted four times since Marcos left. We change collar every six years but the dog gets mangier and shabbier, to say the least. Every time we go to the polls we endeavor to choose the best, we pin on them our hopes for better governance but we always end up disappointed , if not angry. The masa is always blamed for not voting wisely. For choosing popularity over ability. But tell me, have there been any good choices lately? We have elected a simple housewife with the aura of a saint. Nada. A West pointer who promised to make the country a tiger. Meow. A movie actor whose battlecry is para sa masa. Lalong wala. A well-educated progeny of a previous president. Hello. And to flagellate ourselves a little bit more, another progeny. Wangwang. Do the Filipinos lack the genetic marker for leadership such that among the hundred millions we cannot have any luck in choosing one to pull us out of the hole we are in? Every six years we hope. Every six years we end up worse than ever. And so, in a few months, we will be served Mar Roxas and Jojo Binay. Both dishes unpalatable. Not only are we forced to choose the lesser poison, but of course, the bill is on us. Pass the Prozac please.
