Once upon a time, there was a country called Nigeria whos tagged as the giant of Africa in terms of power, economy and population. This Nigeria has participated in many peace keeping mission in Africa especially the prominent ones to Dafur, Rwanda, Liberia, Sierra Leone to mention but few. However, this Nigeria has been engulfed in a full scale war by an Islamic sect called Boko Haram and the once super power of Africa who had fought many war and engaged themselves in peace enforcement schemes couldnt replicate the outstanding job done in order countries to herself. From persistent bomb blast, to the killing of prominent Sheikhs, the issue has now transgressed its ugly head to the abduction of innocent young girls from Borno state. The sect group are so fearless that theyve gotten the temerity to attack many places including the prominent Giwa barrack in Borno state. For Shekau to reveal that Islam is killing killing and that he had sold the girls to slave market, thats a hige travesty. We dont have any slave market in this world and Islam is not a religion of violence and incessant killings. What has happened to our dear country, Nigeria? We fought Biafara and scaled through; Maitatsine were crushed by the same Nigerian security forces but Boko Haram is proving to be too difficult to contain. Nigeria, in her quest to find an ever-lasting solution, has resort to forming an alliance with the US in order to try and rescue those girls. This writer is strongly against the decision to invite the US to intervene and bring back our girls. If we keep sentiments, tribal, ethnic, religious, and political differences aside, together we can help salvage our nation from the brink of decline. The same US predicted that by 2015, Nigeria will disintegrate, and now, all the trappings of civil war and disintegration is becoming conspicuous by the high rising effect of Boko Haram in the north; Niger-Delta militants, Biafara zionism in the south, Ombatse, Fulani herdsmen, religious and ethnic crisis in the middle belt to mention but few. Going memory lane, we all know what happens to any country where US intend to offer help. We witnessed what transpired in Afghanistan, Iraq, and a myriads of others to mention. In as much as were tagged as the giants of Africa, then we should shame the world and tackle our problems ourselves but not by inviting the US to offer us helping hands. We are really in trial times in Nigeria, and every nation have trial times- with some severe than the orders. What are your opinion(s)?
