One more angle of Rajdeep sardesai & the mob issue Chandrashekar Angadi Sachin Raut Ayan Sengupta Rediff Home NEWS Modi upset with fans over attack on Rajdeep Sardesai Tags :Rajdeep Sardesai, Narendra Modi, Bharatiya Janata Party, New York, US September 30, 2014 Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been keeping silent over rowdy elements within his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, and among his millions of fans. But the incident at Madison Square Garden in New York on September 28 when journalist Rajdeep Sardesai was abused and manhandled, forced the prime minister to react. Modi’s close friend and Gujarat-based industrialist Gautam Adani called up Sardesai and delivered a personal message from the prime minister stating that he was upset over the incident. Rajdeep was abused by a small group of die-hard Modi fans and then manhandled moments before the grand event to honour the prime minister started at Madison Square Garden. The incident triggered a war of words on social media. Sardesai, who recently joined Headlines Today as consultant after parting ways with CNN-IBN, has been conducting successful prime-time news shows. Things were fine initially. Those who recognised him took scores of selfies with the television celebrity near Penn station of New York. Suddenly, he was hit on the back by someone to which he objected. A small group then started abusing him and reportedly told him that he should migrate to Pakistan along with his wife and well-known anchor Sagarika Ghosh and his children. Rajdeep objected strongly when his children were abused. He took on the guy who was threatening him. Unfortunately, the man who attacked Rajdeep in the back is not shot on camera, but subsequent events have been recorded. Many believe that it is high time that Modi speaks out publicly against incidents where his over-enthusiastic fans have gone berserk and lost civility. Even in the past, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chauhan were hooted in public in the presence of the prime minister.
