One more of the Navajo Sandstone. This is an aerial shot of Zion Canyon National Park, Utah. If you look at one of the towers, you can easily see three, distinct, groupings of rock layers that are pervasive across the Colorado Plateau, particularly in SE Utah. The white rock on the top is the Navajo Sandstone - its a petrified, ancient ocean of sand dunes. Below that is the darker, cliff-forming Wingate Sandstone (I think - not positive.) Below that, eroding more rapidly and thus forming a talus slope is the Chinle formation. static.panoramio/photos/original/33005860.jpg
