One nice thing about todays UP Law 89 Leadership Forum is that we were able to have a family picture with President Ramos. When I took my oath as DENR Undersecretary in 1996, we had picture taken too - including Rafa who was a baby then and Rico - but we never got the official picture from Malacanang. This was long before the age of selfies. In my conversation this evening with FVR, I was reminded that I was his youngest undersecretary (when Butch Olano of DAR left shortly after I came in) and that when he saw my CV,, he told DENR Secretary Vic Ramos Where did you get this guy? Later, I was instructed by Sec. Ramos to join all the provincial trips of FVR so he will get to know you because people are accusing you of being a communist. We got along actually quite well and was very supportive even when we dealt with controversial issues like the Bolinao cement plant which he supposedly wanted approved but which we denied an ECC too. And in the Kyoto Protocol negotiations, FVR was hands on and gave us instructions even in the final hours.
