One of my grandmothers was a Thurman. Her mother was a Maxey. Even though those two families melded in the Texas Hill Country after the Civil War, there is evidence they lived in the same communities in Virginia (and what is now West Virginia). I remembered once coming across someone with the combined family names, so I googled. Was surprised to find a handful of people (some still alive) named either Maxey Thurman or Thurman Maxey. I guess the two families periodically have intermarried.
