One of our friends wrote this and shared it with us....if your a KY FAN OR HAVE EVER WONDERED WHY KY FANS ARE SO PASSIONATE THEN READ BELOW Dont laugh but I wrote this the other night .... Being born and raised here in Kentucky you are immediately born into something special that at a early age you have no idea what it is. More then likely you were brought home wearing some sort of UK attire or wrapped in a UK blanket. Some of your earliest memories are probably of your family members screaming and yelling at the TV or radio with a UK basketball game on. Listening to Cawood call the game as if he were painting a picture. In your head you can see the players running , dribbling, shooting and passing the ball while the game is being played. You watched the games on television as a child dreaming of that day you are on that court wearing that glorious blue and white. If the cats lose , you have a sense of losing too as if your part of the team on that court. We all have dreams in life and for us Kentuckians you probably had a dream of playing for the cats, at least I did. See in high school I was part of a successful basketball team. You become friends and you are around them so much ultimately you become brothers. Brothers that fight all season together in hopes of the ultimate goal , a championship. You see each other threw good times and the bad times. Even though I have been out of high school for 12 years I still stay in contact with my brothers from time to time . See being a Kentucky fan is like being a team. You support one another , threw good times and bad, threw wins and losses. You meet fans along the way that you stay in contact with and you become brother and or sisters. It’s a way of life here , its who we are and what we were born to do. Since we all couldn’t become players at the University of Kentucky we become fans, we look at ourselves as part of the team which in a way we are. We as fans all have the same goals as the players , to hang another banner in the historic rafters of Rupp Arena. We cant be on the court so we just cheer on the guys that are lucky and blessed enough to put that jersey on. The jerseys we as fans wear are the blue and white shirts , hats , earrings , tattoos , shoes and rings. So to answer the question , Why are Kentucky fans so passionate about basketball ? You always want the best for your family , and well this is a family here in Kentucky. Go to Rupp Arena for a game and its like hanging out with 23,500 family members. Unless you are playing Louisville or Duke
