One of the benefits of document imaging is that we convert the hard copy paper to a digital format (i.e. PDF, .TIF, .JPG, etc.) and then recycle the hard copy by shredding. One of the ironies is that sometimes we need to create paper to process the paper. Some projects require that we generate document separator sheets that are used by our scan and capture software for splitting bulk scanned batches into individual documents. We do reuse most of our separator sheets. We also have to make copies of hard to scan documents such as patient records with attached test data. As scan and capture technology becomes more sophisticated, the use of separator sheets becomes less and less. OCR classification and separation is helping to automate the batch scanning process.
