One of the best tasting and certainly the most famouse beer in Belgium is produced at the The Abbey of Orval, in Belgium’s Ardennes Forest, is truly a place of mystery. The name “Orval” means “Valley of Gold”. According to legends the monastery of Orval stared with the Countess Mathilde of Tuscany. While on her way through here in the 1000s, she stopped by a well to rest. As she drank the water, her wedding ring came off and fell into the depths. Distraught, she prayed to the Lord and a trout came up to the surface with the ring in its mouth. Out of gratitude, she financed a monastery here, and it has been a holy place ever since. The story of the ring survived in the symbol of the beer with a trout holding the golden ring in its moth. This logo of the Orval beer is visible on every bottle of the legendary beer
