One of the big criticisms of the thermomix is that it takes away the cook in cooking. So much is done for you that you lose touch with basic cooking. I disagree with this, and I think chefs use it because it opens up a world of cooking, rather than detract. From what I have seen, the TM5 does even more for you, so even less actual hands on cooking. What I love when I cook is understanding what is happening to food at each stage. Making yoghurt for example is an evolving process of steps. The TM5, you bung it in and it does it for you. Convenient? Hell yeah. But in a society of convenience what are we teaching our kids? Food comes from packets. Machine makes my food for me. The convenience is great but for those getting the TM5, try out the long way and get to know your food once in awhile. And show your kids how good is made. :) thoughts?
