One of the great country show traditions is the luncheon. Usually prepared by society volunteers, or as is often the case these days, outsourced to another local community group so they can provide the catering as a fundraiser. These lunches usually comprise cold meat and salads followed by plum pudding and custard and a cup of tea for as little as $10. In the past week I have enjoyed some stellar examples, proving that catering skills are alive and well in many country towns. At #yankalilla there was an amazing plum pudding made using the same recipe the ladies committee has been using for decades, served in the lovely old supper room. At #Strathalbyn there were some stunning salads and tiramisu and chocolate mousse as well as trifle and a beautiful homemade fruit salad. At #Pinnaroo the netball club excelled with individual cupcakes decorated with creative flair as an alternative to more traditional dessert options. And today at #warracknabeal I was whisked away to summers at home during harvest when I was a child and a cold tea often included the now retro classic - sliced Iceberg lettuce boiled eggs and sliced tomato. Wonder whats in store for me on Saturday at Keith? #countryshows
