One of the key issues that we have consistently raised as the BCP - TopicsExpress

One of the key issues that we have consistently raised as the BCP and have restated in our manifesto is the need to have a land audit. Land is a sensitive issue given that it is a resource you cannot expand but you continuously face increased demand for it. In the case of Botswana, there are signs that land has been mismanaged and possibly corruptly allocated. We have had some Commissions that looked into land allocations for specific areas such as in Gaborone and Kweneng areas and all Commissions that have investigated land allocations found serious misconduct on the side of politicians vested with responsibility over land, public officials administering land as well as some investors. We therefore remain convinced that there is need for a nation wide audit so that the nation and its leadership can have a full appreciation of the magnitude of the problem we are dealing with and what factors have led to a situation where we have people who have been on the waiting list for over 25 years. Once the audit has been conducted, it will be followed by action part of which will be for those who may have participated in illegal or underhand land dealings facing the wrath of the law. It is in our long term interest as a nation that such an audit be carried out as soon as possible.
