One of the main reasons, in my opinion, why the west wants to arm Kurds in Iraq is shown in this video; The PKK played the role of the hero that saved the Yzidis, after the Iraqi Kurds failed to protect the areas bordering ISIS. There was the consequent risk that the PKK would become too influential in Iraqi Kurdistan. The west obviously doesnt like the PKK. The PKK in Iraq would bring about new unpredictable equations, which the west doesnt want to deal with. Besides the PKK is not a pro-west organization and unlike the Iraqi Kurdish ones cant be tamed and controlled. Further, the PKK has always had good relations with the Assad regime, a full member of the team Iran-Russia. It is likely that the PKK has struck a deal with Iran, and I suspect that the anti-tank rockets they acquired a few weeks ago were provided either by Iran or Russia through the Syrian government. When Iranian Kurdish forces wanted to join the fight against ISIS in Iraqi Kurdistan like the PKK, they were asked not to by the Iraqi Kurdish PUK, which doesnt do anything without Irans consent nowadays. While the same PUK had already invited the PKK to join the fight against ISIS around Kirkuk weeks before ISIS took over Sinjar according to some sources. They have at least not asked them to leave, and it is confirmed that the PKK has a presence in and around Kirkuk right now. Humanitarian reasons, for a great part, are just a pretext for the political battle between team west and team Iran-Russia.
