One of the most exciting moments in the exploration and restoration of Franklin Pioneer Cemetery came on July 31, 2007 when the team decided to attempt to push together the split top of the box tomb of Elizabeth Allender Connelly who died December 1, 1842. We could tell by looking through the crack that the tomb was filled at least half way up with dirt and stones. Once we pulled back the top and looked into the box, we were amazed and totally thrilled at finding many original stones that had marked the gravesites of people whose bodies had been either moved to another cemetery or possibly markers that had fallen over and the caretakers were not sure where to put them ... so this box tomb became a storage area. John Duffield, Mary H. Plumer McCalmont, Esther Duffield, Rebecca Hanna, Thomas Bryden, Marion Lamberton, Infant of _ H & S.J.H. and two footstones with the initials J.C.M & M. J. K. were the markers discovered within this tomb.
