One of the pastors from our church wrote this, I thought it had great ideas, hope you do too. As a church body, we have focused our attention this year on the concept that Bear Valley Church is best known for – Unleashing our people for kingdom purposes. In 2013 we have planned twice as many short-term mission trips in an effort to “unleash” as many people as possible to experience the overwhelming joy and wonder of missions! So far this year BVC mission teams have been sent to Uganda, Puerto Rico and Vieques, Glorieta, Flagler, Camp Barnabas, inner city Denver, and Durango. With upcoming trips planned for the remainder of this year and next for teams to be unleashed in Haiti, Peru, India, Guatemala, Philippines and Kenya. In addition, just this past Sunday we were told of another mission trip to Denmark in October (if you are interested in this one, please contact Jason Lee – soon). In my life, being unleashed for missions has meant leadership of our Family Mission Trip to Flagler and an upcoming mission endeavor to India in October. In India, I will get to lead several hundred pastors, for multiple days, through an introductory/overview of the New Testament. I will also get to be part of the dedication of a building that BVC provided $38,000 to construct, and spend time with Brother Abraham and his team. While all of this is very exciting, perhaps you are thinking that “unleashed missions” is just for a select few. Not so! Let me encourage you to find a way this year to get directly involved in some kind of missions endeavor. Along those lines, may I suggest ideas you may not have thought of? Ten Ideas for Developing an Unleashed Mission Heart: 1. Invite your friends and neighbors to events at the church that would be relevant to the unchurched (Christmas Eve, Easter, musicals, seminars and other special-focus events). 2. See the schools as a mission field. Volunteer as a chaperone for field trips, dances, graduation night, PTA. 3. Establish a guestroom in your house to host missionaries and/or visiting pastors. 4. Invite a friend to a movie, and over coffee, utilize the movie to discuss their outlook on life. 5. Leave a piece of evangelistic literature for a waiter or waitress (along with a generous tip!). 6. Memorize Luke 19:10 and create a list of the potential “lost” people you would like to reach in your area. 7. Read Matthew 25 and try to identify one project per month that you can do for the types of people Jesus lists. 8. Pray for the country on the label of your clothes. 9. Start an e-mail or pen pal connection with some long-term international missionaries. 10. Listen to CNN or other world news report and pray through the countries mentioned. And just one more thing: WHILE UNLEASHED IN KINGDOM WORK – HAVE FUN!!!
