One of the saddest parts of the Black experience is that we still seem to expect justice from the same people, or the descendants of the same people, who have raped, robbed, castrated, burnt, beheaded, exploited, oppressed, enslaved, colonized and violated us in every way. So we sit around on pins and needles talking about George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin (kind of like a sporting event) just as we sat and talked about Troy Davis, O.J. Simpson, Rodney King, the list is endless. And the results are usually the same. The outrage is understandable. But if only we would invest that same energy into creating organizations and institutions to prevent such travesties. I fear that it is must easier to react to injustices than to create institutions that will empower us. And this is one of the great weaknesses of our people.
