One of the saddest things I have witnessed this year is how people have let their hurts and offenses rip them out of great churches and away from good pastors. This has actually become an epidemic nationwide. Not only have I seen this in my own church, but also pastors from around America are sharing the same stories with one another on a daily basis. This would indicate to me it is a supernatural attack that transcends both church walls and state lines. You would think that Believers would easily see this as the work of our common enemy, yet they seem so ignorant of his devices. Christians have got to get their eyes off of the actions of one another and quit being so critical of each other. This same grace needs to be extended to the pastor equally. One of Satan’s most effective strategies is to get people to hang all of their problems on their pastor because that is the easy way out. Why does he do this? It’s because the devil knows you need your pastor to help fight your problems. I don’t know what I would do without my pastor of over 25 years. Remember, we are not supposed to be wrestling against flesh and blood – or one another. Satan is behind all of this division and strife. How quickly people forget the goals and rules of spiritual warfare. So, what should people do? How about just burying the hatchet? Forgive one another. Bring those thoughts into captivity. Live in the Spirit where there is unity. Restoration takes 30 seconds … Offense takes a lifetime. Refuse to partner with the Devil by becoming an accuser of your brethren. Reflect on the devil’s win which has become your loss. Choose to be for your church instead of against your church. Look up and not down. Become more vertical and less horizontal. Be a part of the solution crowd instead of willingly joining in with the problem-making crowd. Jesus taught that the reason a kingdom is ruined is because it is divided against itself, and a household divided against itself cannot stand as well. Jesus gave us the solution to these problems. Avoid division. Pursue unity. Believe the best of one another, not the lies. Peter summed it up nicely when he exhorted us to, “Respect everyone, love your Christian brothers and sisters, fear God, and honor your leaders.” We are in a season where so many are following the crowd and handling things the wrong way. Be original. Fight for the family of God, even if it means you swallowing your pride. Now, if any of what I’ve written here hurts or angers you, deal with it and make the necessary changes. You can do it. After all, isn’t that what “dying to one’s self” is all about? We are either in this battle together or in this battle apart. Isn’t it easier doing it shoulder to shoulder? We are so much stronger when we are together! “Brethren, how good and how pleasant it is when we dwell together in unity.”
