One of the things I picked up at the age of 31, was hockey. If it were up to me, I would be on the ice every day. I missed my calling, but the closest I got to ice hockey as a kid was ice skating on the lake in Holiday Park in Cheyenne, and seeing a Colorado Rockies game in the 80s. (Yes, there was a professional hockey team in Denver in the 80s called the Rockies. They are now the New Jersey Devils.) I am so thankful that I found this sport. I cant even explain why other than to say it is the most challenging and fulfilling sport I have ever played. It constantly changes - every second is different than the last. No predictability, no set plays, and you have to change your thinking and approach to the game constantly based on the circumstances at that second. It takes skill, intelligence, and a whole lot of practice! I only get to play once a week usually, sometimes twice. Theres a month or so each year where I might get 3 skates in a week. In Colorado, before my heart surgery, I played with a group of guys - leagues, drop in, tournaments. I remember one tournament playing against the seniors for the DU team. Ive played with members of the Colorado Avalanche, with a Detroit Red Wing, and one the ice at Pepsi Center with good friends (Dan Ranger, Hillary Greene) I hope in the next year I can meet some more guys in Maine like Mark Holzhauer , Mike and Hillary Greene, (Hillarys not a guy, but still one of the guys), Dan ... And I hope I can get back to 3 times a week. Its the one activity that I truly, truly love, and that is good for me. I am thankful for this game. That I have the skill to play it. And that I have had the privilege of playing it with such great people! Go Avs!
