One of the things that I have enjoyed is watching as companies merchandize their products at Christmas. There have been some very good offerings over the years. This year I was impressed with this one from Jack Daniels Distillery, as they create a Christmas tree out of the casks that are used to distill their whiskey. The final scene ends with the words, Its not whats under the tree, but whos around it. Its refreshing to hear companies speak of the value not of their product but of the gathering of family and friends. But Christmas is not about that either, Christmas is about Christ. The gift that God gave to mankind. This Sunday (12/1) will mark the beginning of the Advent Season, the four weeks leading up to Christmas. A time when as the church we reflect on the promise of a Savior, the coming of the Savior and the promised return of our Savior. During the next four weeks we will be looking at a single passage from the book of Isaiah, one of Isaiahs Messianic prophecies. For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6) Come and join us as we enter into the celebration of the Word made Flesh.
