One year ago today at about this very time, I sustained my eye injury in Pyongyang while demonstrating a water filter to Jim Jones on my last night at PUST. He stayed behind when everyone else went to GumGangSan and insisted on talking religion with me... Ugh!!!! I never tell anyone what to believe - why do evangelical Christians insist on trying to tell me what to believe?! Not exactly consistent with the Golden Rule I thought they believed in... Anyway, I was getting very annoyed and trying to change the subject and wasnt paying enough attention to what I was doing and got a stream of water under vaccuum pressure in the right eye... Three weeks later I had surgery in NYC, by an amazing surgeon. My optometrist couldnt believe that it was possible to have that surgery and yet have vision correctable to better than 20-20... Good surgeon combined with obedient patient equals very good results... I do have a lot more respect for the fragility of human health after that, and a much different perspective on life, realizing how finite things can potentially be....
