One year ago today, in weather similar to what we are having here, I fell off my bicycle on the morning of the first full day of a vacation in Monterey, CA and was knocked unconscious for a few seconds, broke my collar bone, a rib and my left shoulder blade. I affectionately refer to it as breaking my left wing. I spent the next 8 days in what would have been agony had it not been for some really good pain meds and even better friends who dressed me, fed me, showered me. Not only was my vacation ruined, so was theirs. Hopefully, I can get a do-over. Thanks Helena Smith and Mary Goldsby for taking such good care of me. And special mention to Kim Willis, Gary Yokie for carting me back from the airport. Susan Stolberg-Reed and Blue Heron Farm for keeping my dog Emme for me. Teresa Schwartz Osborn for keeping Seamus for me, Karin Adair Crichton for transporting Seamus. Tracy Wright for moving my bed not just once, but twice. My sister, Susan Arbuckle for picking up the taking care of me tasks in Houston. And my cousin Michelle Shedd for having such a lovely home that even having to stay so close to it in Monterey still seemed vacation like. My Aunt Mary Catherine for her moral support, meals and offers of help. Jennis Noodles for delivering to me. I do not plan for there to be a sequel to this story.
