One year from today...I will be walking into a nondescript - TopicsExpress

One year from today...I will be walking into a nondescript building in Bloomington, Minnesota with my fate and future in the hands of a judge. This judge doesnt know me from Adam, but none the less my life will be in her hands. This little problem of mine has been around for a few years and I havent really talked to many people about it because there is little that can be done. Now that the impending date is less than a year away I feel it is the right time to let you all know. Many years ago (1994) I made some decisions that put me on the wrong side of the law. I admitted my guilt, did my time, paid my fines and made a decision that I would never put myself in that situation ever again. Since that time I havent even had a speeding ticket. About three years ago I traveled to Canada for a family funeral. When I tried to return into the United States I was detained at the border because of my past criminal history. Due to this minor transgression that happened 20 years ago the United States Government has decided that I am what they deem unfavorable and they began Removal Proceedings. Basically they are trying to deport me. Since my ordeal at the border I have hired an attorney who has done an amazing job. He was able to have all but one charge completely removed from my record. The one remaining charge was reduced to a misdemeanor. This should have been enough to have the removal proceedings stopped but the court ruled that the only reason we had the charges dropped or reduced was because of immigration hardship and they would not accept that. I have several letters from local community organizations and non profit groups that I have either volunteered at or have helped through the radio station singing my praises. I know that I have the support of my family and my workplace but needless to say the past three years have been a very stressful and frustrating time for me. I am afraid of what might happen on April 1st 2015 but I have the next year to hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I thank you all in advance for your patience with me over the next year. Many of you may be thinking that this is an April Fools joke but I swear to you it is not. This is a very real situation that has been on my shoulders for far too long without discussing it openly.
