Only a few days to our Moss & Lovatt talk now - next Thursday - TopicsExpress

Only a few days to our Moss & Lovatt talk now - next Thursday 20th. Nigel is ready and were very much looking forward to his talk. Until recently Moss and Lovatt (Milk Carriers) Ltd, based in Rushton Spencer, was one of the most prominent of haulage companies in the Staffordshire Moorlands. Alas no more, for the recession took its toll and it closed in 2011. But for over 80 years it was a common sight, when driving from Leek to Macclesfield, to see a Moss & Lovatt lorry drawing out onto the main road. Things began to go well for the firm in 1926; during the General Strike, farmers could no longer use the train to take their fresh milk to Manchester. The station at Rushton Spencer was shut so here was a transport opportunity not to be missed! Moss & Lovatt was always very much a family firm, playing a large part in all aspects of the local community. Join us at the Swythamley Historical Society on Thursday 20 March when Nigel Edwards, one of the founder’s grandsons, is coming along to tell us the story of Moss and Lovatt. He will be bringing along many of the records and photos that his family has preserved over the decades. Tickets are £3 and the talk, in the Swythamley Centre, begins at 7.30pm. For more information, ring 01260 227683.
