Open thread: Do they need a KO specialist? Your Monday morning open thread: Kai Forbath was an overnight sensation last season in Washington. The 25-year-old quickly proved to be accurate and clutch on field goals. He also set an NFL record for most consecutive field goals to start a career with 17. More important, it looks like he’ll bring stability to the position. But … his kickoffs were a lot less spectacular than his field goals. In fact, he registered just 15 touchbacks on 62 kickoffs (24.2-percent). Enter John Potter, a kickoff specialist who appeared in six games for the Bills last season. He recorded 13 touchbacks on 26 kickoffs (50-percent). Roster spots, as we know, are at a premium. Keeping Potter would mean sacrificing depth elsewhere on the 53-man roster. Although Potter was likely brought in to create some competition for Forbath, he’s on the 90-man roster and will be in training camp. So he’s got some hope. Would you take a kickoff specialist over a third quarterback? Another position? Thoughts?
